HOW THE CHEST PACKS CAME TO LIFE
About Us
Powder Designs was established in August 1986 by Steve Dawson. He had experience in the apparel industry and saw a need for pack development for the Ski Patrol and Land Survey industries. He had created a few radio harnesses and ski patrol packs, customized to the needs they had. He expanded the business from there through word of mouth connections to create more wearable solutions.
Steve did packs for Novatell, which then was taken over by Sokia, to carry their specialized equipment. He also designed the Trauma Pack first aid kit for the World Cup in Lake Louise in 2008 and then they also were use in the Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver. Companies like ATCO Gas also were interested in custom made solutions for radios, cell phones and tablets.
Powder Designs was acquired by Wi-Com Solutions mid 2017. Wi-Com is planning to continue this custom made packs tradition, with head seamstress Karen in charge.
Karen Crocker is spearheading this new department. Karen Comes to Wi-Com Designs with an Industrial Design (Product Design) background from the University of Calgary and a Fine Arts Ceramic background from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She has many years of stitching experience, both for local film and theatre productions and through her personal artistic practice.
The team will be happy to discuss any customization and design of products to serve your specific safety wearables and custom carry case needs.
